P-08 SuperPrime Interior Vinyl Acrylic Drywall Primer
P-08 is a fast-drying, waterborne vinyl acrylic primer-sealer for interior drywall and cured plaster.
Made to order
Overview
P-08 is a fast-drying, waterborne vinyl acrylic primer-sealer for interior drywall and cured plaster. It seals the paper facing and the joint compound to a uniform porosity, so the finish coat lays down at an even sheen instead of flashing over the taped seams.
Uses and Benefits
New drywall: paper facing and joint compound, sealed to an even porosity. Cured plaster, 30 days minimum. Spot priming before and after filling nail holes, cracks and surface imperfections. Repaint work over sound, dulled existing coatings. Flat finish coat where a primer-finish is acceptable.
Limitations
Interior only. Not for floors. Not for masonry or metal. Use P-02 or a compatible metal primer on those substrates. Do not apply below 50°F (air, surface and material), and keep at least 5°F above the dew point. High humidity extends dry times, both to touch and to recoat. PROTECT FROM FREEZING: this is a waterborne coating; a frozen container is scrap. Tint with waterborne colorants only, toward the topcoat color to improve hide. Confirm topcoat compatibility before specifying.
Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, dust, grease, oil, soap, wax, scaling paint, water-soluble materials and mildew. Drywall: Remove all sanding dust. Blow the surface down with clean, dry air and vacuum; dust left on the board is the most common cause of a primer that will not bond. Spot prime before and after filling nail holes, cracks and surface imperfections, so the patch and the board finish at the same porosity. Knife off any protrusions and remove powder or loose particles. Plaster: New plaster must cure 30 days before priming. Cured plaster is hard, carries a slight sheen and reads pH 10 or below. Soft, porous or powdery plaster indicates improper cure; do not prime it. Prime before and after applying patching compound. Previously Painted: Remove peeling or scaling paint and sand to feather the edges smooth with the adjacent surface. Dull all glossy areas. Make a test application over unfamiliar coatings to confirm compatibility.
